Samsung Electronics Italia selects Epipoli, the Italian Fintech group, market leader in prepaid cards, engagement and couponing systems, to bring Gift Cards to the world of mobile payment. This marks an important step towards the digitization of Gift Cards – introduced in Italy by Epipoli itself in 2006 – which enter Italian e-wallets thanks to Samsung Pay, Samsung’s electronic payment system launched in Italy in March 2018.
Epipoli has created the new Gift Card section within the Samsung Pay app. It will now be possible to buy and give Gift Cards of the best known and most loved brands, including them in your e-wallet. Gift Cards can be spent in total simplicity and safety through the Samsung mobile payment service, online or in the physical stores of the reference brands.
Gaetano Giannetto, Founder and President of Epipoli, comments: “Epipoli’s mission is to build a bridge between the physical and digital world, providing useful tools to facilitate the natural and necessary transition towards an increasingly cashless society. We were the first in 2006 to introduce Gift Cards in Italy. We are the first, today, to ensure that Gift Cards can be purchased and spent in increasingly innovative ways, thanks to the Samsung Pay mobile payment service.”
“Samsung Pay continues to experience steady growth and the number of Galaxy users who are using this convenient, simple and secure contactless electronic payment method is increasing. We are expanding and diversifying this service thanks to the introduction of new features, including the enabling of the new Gift Card section created in collaboration with Epipoli. We are really excited about this partnership, because it offers even more opportunities to our users and contributes more and more to the realization of digital transformation processes in Italy, marking a further step forward towards the so-called cashless society”, declares Paolo Bagnoli, Head of Marketing of the telephony division of Samsung Electronics Italia.
Today Epipoli is a prepaid payment network with 250 Partners in over 50,000 points of sale, and reaches around 4 million consumers. Since 2017, with the acquisition of the Groupalia brand, it has been the leading Italian couponing operator with 7,000 connected merchants and 2 million users. In 2019 alone, over 2.5 million consumers purchased the Group’s gift cards. In 2020, the group’s digital platform, MyGiftCard.it, recorded triple-digit growth both in terms of turnover and number of virtual Gift Cards sold.
